Introduction to Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is pervasive and has become part of our daily lives in the workplace and at home. There are some misperceptions about this technology and we will dispel some of these myths. This course helps participants to develop an understanding of AI terminology, history of AI, applications of AI in the healthcare industry, and potential ethical considerations for using this technology. We will be discussing critical ethical issues related to transparency, accountability, algorithmic bias, and governance practices for this technology. Moreover, we will review the classic "trolley problem" in the context of healthcare and discuss the important concept of moral tradeoffs.

  • Identify ways that AI is being used in healthcare organizations and its impact on the organization's stakeholders.
  • Analyze relevant ethical implications for using this technology.

Introduction to Healthcare Finance

Value-based Care, Consumerism, Fraud, Waste and Abuse! What do these buzz words have in common?  This introductory healthcare finance course provides foundational understanding of these key concepts and how they are shaping the future of healthcare. We will explore the various types of healthcare payers, payment methodologies and the pitfalls most associated with the US Healthcare payment system. We will examine current developments and initiatives to address these policy concerns and debate their remediation potential.

Prerequisites

None

  • Students will be able to identify and explain the differences between the various types of healthcare payers in the US.
  • Students will be able to describe the US healthcare system of reimbursement and explain the quality versus quantity dilemma.
  • Students will be able to articulate the complexity of DRG, ICD-10 and CPT coding and relate it to current issues with reimbursement and regulatory compliance.
  • Students will be able to explain alternative payment methodologies and evaluate their potential for resolving regulatory compliance and quality of care policy concerns.

Securing Ourselves in a Digital World

Information technology has become integrated into every aspect of our daily lives.  This integration has, unfortunately, created vulnerabilities that leave us susceptible to data breaches at every turn. This engaging course will highlight the most common vulnerabilities and expose students to cybersecurity basics. This knowledge will allow students to have a better understanding of how to create and operate in a more secure environment.

Prerequisites

None

  • Provide a brief history of cybersecurity
  • Discuss the importance of cybersecurity to include data security (Protected Health Information (PHI), Personal Identifiable Information (PII))
  • Understand the basics of creating a more secure environment (workplace, home, mobile, traveling)
  • Exposure to the anatomy of a cybersecurity attack and the different types of malicious software (malware).
