Course Learning Objectives

Emotional intelligence is the foundation of our personal and interpersonal behavior. Emotional and social competencies are the essence of what makes us effective- both personally and professionally, and the evidence shows that these are the factors that lead to success.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to:

  1. Understand what is happening within us- how we feel, what motivates us, and why we are focused on the things that matter to us.
  2. Manage our behavior to respond in a manner that is most effective and productive, instead of reacting without proper thought and intention.
  3. Recognize what others may be feeling and what could be driving their behavior.
  4. Manage our relationships based on our understanding of ourselves and others, leading to trusting, more productive relationships both personally and professionally.
